U-shell 300mm Aerated concrete
U-sections 300mm – What is a U-section?
In addition to our wide range of standard and ready-made aerated concrete lintels, we also have an extensive range of aerated concrete U-sections. The U-sections are available in different thicknesses, from 150mm to 500mm. This U-section has a thickness of 300mm, a length of 600mm and a height of 250mm.
The U-shaped elements, made of aerated concrete, serve as insulating formwork for the concrete lintel. It is important that a lintel above a door or window opening is well insulated to prevent insulation leaks, also known as thermal bridges. Aerated concrete is known for its excellent thermal insulation. By using aerated concrete U-sections, these thermal bridges are prevented. Aerated concrete lintels are easy to make yourself with our U-sections. In addition, they can also be used with walls made of other building materials such as Poriso, brick, sand-lime brick, and concrete. After placing the U-sections, the wall can be finished, for example, with plasterwork.
How do I make a lintel 300mm thick?
If you are making a lintel yourself, you first start by creating temporary support. This can easily be done with wooden beams and slats. The aerated concrete U-sections are placed on top of this. Then, the U-sections can be fitted with a reinforcement cage or steel beam, this is for strengthening the structure, which you can purchase yourself. Afterwards, if desired, additional insulation can be placed. Finally, the U-sections can be filled with structural concrete. It is important to use the correct concrete for this, to achieve a sturdy structure. For this, we recommend our Concrete Mortar from Bruil.
Step-by-step plan, making a lintel yourself:
- Create temporary support from wooden beams and slats.
- Place the U-sections on the temporary support.
- Place the reinforcement cage or steel beam and the insulation.
- Pour the structural concrete into the U-sections.
A structural engineer can advise you on the type of reinforcement required for your structure.
